JENNY GREENWOOD - GREENWOOD PSYCHOLOGY
I have been a Psychologist for over 20 years. I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society, a Registered Psychologist and a Registered Medicare Provider.
I am approachable and non-judgemental. I know how hard it is to take the first step towards getting help. I am here to work together with you
and provide support for whatever you need help with. Just like you I have challenges to face, and I know many things can get in the way of us enjoying our lives.
CONTINUED EDUCATION
As a Registered Psychologist it is mandatory to undertake Peer Supervision with other Psychologists and to continue to do further training to improve our skills and to be aware of the latest research on the therapies that get the best results (known as evidence based therapies).
The therapies I use are evidence based and are fine-tuned to suit each client. The main therapies I use are based on behavioural, interpersonal and attachment theories and include CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapies), Mindfulness (learning how to let stress and anxiety go)
and IPT (Interpersonal Therapy) which focusses particularly on relationships.
I will thoroughly explain the types of therapy we are going to be using in your sessions and with your agreement we can work out a therapy plan.
REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE
I am a parent and have first hand experience with the challenges we all face through all the different stages of parenting babies, children, adolescents and young adults. I really enjoy working with all age groups.
SETTING GOALS
At the start of therapy we work together to come up with a goal you want to achieve. This goal can be anything you want it to be, such as feeling less depressed, more motivated to start a new career, controlling
your anxiety, working through grief and relationship problems and so on.
So the therapy is then focussed around your goal and also towards relapse prevention by helping you to develop
the skills and resilience to cope with future difficulties.
LEARNING TO CONTROL STRESS
I think an important part of therapy, particularly for those of us that carry around a lot of stress, is to learn to develop a sense of calm control to better cope with all the hurdles you must jump over on a daily basis.
Developing a deeper understanding of the way our bodies
react to stress, pain and loss can result in a significant improvement in
our mental and physical health.
