Medicare / Referral
For a Medicare rebate a referral is required. You can see your General Practitioner and she or he can write out a Mental Health Care Plan which allows you to receive Medicare rebates on up to 20 sessions over a year. Claiming your rebate can be done online through My Gov, your Medicare App or in person at your local Medicare Office.
Your Private Health Insurance may also allow you to claim, so it is worth checking that to see.
Reports Fees
If a report is required or client notes are to be released there is a minimum fee of $185.
Depending on the work required the fee can go up to $500.
A quote can be given before starting the process.
Late Cancellation Fees.
Late cancellations are near impossible to fill with another client.
Psychologist appointments are not short 15 minute slots, they include 50 minutes of face to face consultation, preparation time prior to the consultation and then the formalising of notes after. Around 90 minutes is dedicated to each client.
Late cancellations severely effect a Psychologist's ability to cover overheads.
A late cancellation is a loss for three people.
1] The Client, who is delaying their therapy process.
2] Another Client, who has been sitting on a waiting list to see a Psychologist.
3] The Psychologist, who has spent time preparing for the session and has now lost income.
Late Cancellation Fees.
A cancellation within 48 hours of an appointment will be billed at $75. This is not claimable through Medicare.
Cancellation fees are approved by The Office of Fair Trading.
